“Sisterakas” was indeed a “movie event” not only because it was an entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival, but also because it features three of the biggest movie stars: Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda, and Ai Ai delas Alas.
But did you know that during the early stages of the production, it was Vice who was the sole sure part of the major cast? The production team also considered casting Eugene Domingo (“Kimmy Dora,” “Here Comes the Bride”) for the film.
As the casting was still floating in midair, the team thought about using superheroes and commercial endorsements, among others as takeoff concepts for the film.
Eventually, Kris and Ai Ai completed the trio. Vice was Bernice, a rude yet powerful apparel mogul, Kris was Roselle, his ardent competitor, and Ai Ai was Detty, a woman in dire need of work.
The story was inspired by screenwriter Kriz Gazmen’s favorite Bible story: that of Joseph’s.
In order to make the film more engaging and child-friendly (especially since it was shown during the Christmas season), teen royalties Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla and kid wonder Xyriel Manabat were added to the cast.
All these decisions obviously led for the best, as “Sisterakas” grossed some P342 million in the box office.
