“There will never be another ‘first,’” he wrote in his caption. “I’m really excited for this one.”

The 43-year-old actor admitted at his media conference today, April 6, that he didn’t use to sing, and that it was his last teleserye, “A Love To Last,” that made him embrace his ability to do so.

“Nung binigay sa ‘kin ‘yung role sa ‘A Love To Last’ as Anton Noble, sinabi sa ‘kin na, ‘Ang role mo dito composer, so may parts dito na magpe-play ka ng piano, okay lang ba sa ‘yo?’ ‘Okay lang, I play the piano naman.’ ‘Kaya lang maggi-guitar ka din, okay lang ba sa ‘yo?’ ‘Oo, okay lang. I’m comfortable with that.’ ‘Pero kakanta ka din.’ ‘Yung part na ‘yun, parang, ‘Oh man…’” he recalled.

“[But] because it’s a role and I’m an actor, it’s part my job, edi sige, aayusin ko, kakanta ako,” he continued. “Kaya ‘yung soundtrack ng ‘A Love To Last’ ako lahat kumanta nun. Ako talaga ‘yung nag-record.”

He shared that words from former Star Cinema Chief Operating Officer Malou Santos and ABS-CBN Chief Content Officer Charo Santos, as well as his directors from the show encouraged him to embrace singing.

“Ako, sinasabi ko lagi, ‘No, I’m not a singer. I’m an actor.’ ‘Yun ang lagi kong sinasabi kaya apprehensive akong kumanta, pero ayun nga, they’ve been saying, ‘You can sing - sana you can embrace it,’ and that’s exactly what I did. I embraced it and now I enjoy it so much,” he said.

And now that he’s accepted his talent for singing, he’s ready to show the world what he can do.

Ian shared details of his concert, sharing that it won’t purely be singing as most concerts are.

“It’s a concept show, but the core is music,” he said.

He’s playing to his strengths - his talent as an actor and his talent as a musician. He revealed that he’s incorporated his skill in acting to his concert by relating it to the three acts of a film.

“[It’s] ‘Ian in Three Acts’ kasi everybody knows I’m an actor and a movie has a three acts. Act I is ‘Who you know,’ so the Ian that you know, ‘yung nakikita [niyo] sa ‘A Love To Last,’ the stuff na nakita niyo. Act II is ‘Who you don’t know,’ the other side of me - my own music, the music I listen to, the music I enjoy playing. And the third act is ‘Who I really am,’ which is a combination of both. There’s a flow. We have visuals, we have props, we have stuff - it’s like creating scenes also,” he shared.

“I want to bring something into the stage that only an actor can perform,” he added.

As for his skills as a musician, Ian shared that though he and his band have been practicing and polishing the music for months, he wants to keep some spontaneity.

“I’m so, so happy with what we’ve come up with. Ang galing nung banda, ang sarap-sarap nung jamming namin,” he said.

He furthered, “Minsan hindi ko alam kung saan pupunta [‘yung music] at gusto ko i-maintain ‘yun. Ayoko ‘yung sobrang rehearsed to the point na nakabilang lahat. So may mga instrumental parts na humahataw ako tapos hahataw din ‘yung gitarista. Minsan magsasagutan sa gitara and ‘yun ang hinahanap ko na magic. ‘Yun ‘yung gusto kong part dun, the exploration. That’s why I love music, playing music. It’s supposed to be playful.”
