Richard Poon + 2 new artists ready to go all-original!

By Patricia Francisco

The time has come for us to prepare ourselves because jazz crooner Richard Poon is back with different and fresh music!

Celebrating his 10th year in the music industry, the singer-songwriter finally joins the Star Music family. He signed the contract today, March 5, along with Star Music head Roxy Liquigan and Star Music audio content head Jonathan Manalo.

The singer who is known for doing amazing renditions of beloved songs will release his new album soon. But this time, he gets to finally release an album that will feature all-original songs!

Richard couldn't hide his excitement as he said, "I'm very excited because ito 'yung only album ko that will feature all original. I've never been given the chance to record all originals kasi laging 'pag naiisip ako, 'Ay! Ang kakantahin niyan Frank Sinatra.'"

According to him, he has been wanting to get back to his first love which is songwriting, something that he hasn't been able to do for the past two to three years.

"It's nice to be back arranging songs. Especially ngayon na original ko siya. I can arrange it the way I want. So excited ako," he shared.

To make our anticipation grow even more, he also mentioned that there will be collaborations on his album. There will be songs composed by other talented songwriters such as Yeng Constantino, Aaron Paul, and Vehnee Saturno.

Besides an upcoming all-original album, Richard has another gift in store for us!

He will do a concert to commemorate his decade in the industry on May 18 at the Resorts World Manila. At the concert, he will sing his classic hits from his previous albums, accompanied with his 21-piece band orchestra. Also, he said that he will do some "millennial hits" that people wouldn't expect from him.

Some of his guests include former "ASAP Sessionistas" Kean Cipriano, Sitti Navarro, and Nyoy Volante. And to make things even more exciting, he said that there will be ~dancing~ involved!

"Gusto kong sumayaw more," he said.

He added that he doesn't want to be a dancer but wants to give and show something new. Richard said that he wants to make a Bruno Mars fused with Michael Buble concert experience.

Who else is excited for all of these?

Besides Richard, two more new artists have joined Star Music.

Marlisa Punzalan, the one and only winner of "The X Factor Australia" in 2014, is currently here in the Philippines for the collaboration of her management which is headed by international recording artist Ronan Keating, Tarsier Records, and of course, Star Music.

The 18-year-old Filipina who grew up in Australia shared how excited and happy she is to be a part of Star Music.

"I feel very privileged. As a Filipino artist, I'm really really happy that I get to work and meet other artists here and explore the culture here as well. Now that I get the chance to learn about the Philippines and work in the Philippines with these amazing supporters and awesome musicians, I'm very very honored and happy," she said.

Marlisa will release her all-original album soon including songs that she composed herself. There will also be collaborations with ~surprise~ local artists in her album!

Ryan Tamondong, who won in 2015 the grand prize of "Europop", a singing contest in Europe, is likewise with Star Music now.

The 19-year-old singer shared how happy he is to be able to release his own album.

"First of all, I feel so blessed kasi ilan lang 'yung mga artists na nabibigyan opportunity kagaya nito. This album, we've been working hard for this for more than a year na. Sobrang saya lang kasi finally it is here," he mentioned.

When it comes to his genre in music, the Gary V and Bruno Mars fan said, "Gusto kong magkaroon ng sariling style. 'Yung magke-cater sa all ages, lalo na sa ating mga millennials. 'Yung chill."

Now brace yourselves! Three albums from Star Music will be arriving and we cannot wait!
