There comes a point in our lives when we have to choose what to prioritize: career or love life. Choosing your career could potentially make you feel lonely, while choosing your love life could make you lose focus in your job.
There’s no right or wrong answer between the two. Both options have pros and cons, and heck, you can even choose both and achieve balance!
But for those who want to focus on themselves first and succeed in their careers, you don’t have to apologize and feel “selfish” for it.
Take it from Pia Wurtzbach, who swore off love and relationships before competing in Binibining Pilipinas and Miss Universe 2015. On “Behind the Crown: Confessions with Pia Wurtzbach,” the beauty queen-actress related how she knows she’ll just end up being distracted if she decided to get into a relationship.
“Ako ‘yung tipo na I tend to give a lot to the guy, ‘yung tipong medyo nalulugi na ako. I didn’t want to risk that, especially since I was competing for something like Binibini and Miss Universe,” she said. “I was thinking this can wait, I know kapag na-in love ako tapos na ako, hindi na ako sasali [sa pageant], kaya hindi na muna.”
Pia added that she also wanted to be in a right state of mind before falling in love, something she didn’t have back in 2015.
“I felt like it should come kapag medyo okay na ako sa sarili ko. May mga issues pa ako sa sarili ko, may insecurities pa… I felt like I didn’t have a stable career, a stable job kasi candidate ako eh. I wanted to fix myself first… before being available to anyone,” she said.
And the result of waiting? The Miss Universe 2015 title AND her boyfriend Marlon Stockinger!
“Just set your priorities. Dadating din ‘yan,” she said.
Pia stars in the romantic comedy “My Perfect You” alongside Gerald Anderson. Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, it is now showing worldwide.
