Pia’s Top 3 'never miss out' moments

Pia Wurtzbach seems to have it all – a confidently beautiful woman, a coveted Miss Universe title, a flourishing acting and modelling career, and now, a higher purpose as the newest UNAIDS Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific.

Make no mistake that these all came easy for this German-Filipino beauty from Cagayan de Oro. Beautiful, capable and fearless in all her pursuits, Pia made sure she never missed out her dreams and ensured she maximized every opportunity presented to her.

Here are the top three moments in Pia’s life where she never missed out:

1. Pia became Miss Universe on her third try

Pia is famous for a “never say die” attitude by competing thrice till she bagged the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title in 2015. "People are saying na trying hard daw ako. Yeah, I try hard talaga. I try very hard. I try very hard because this is what I want," she was quoted to have said after winning at the Binibining Pilipinas on her third attempt. Pia never missed out in making each failure a learning opportunity, which spurred her on to become Ms. Universe.

2. Pia always knew she wanted to be an actress—and worked on it.

Pia started her acting career at the age of four under the stage name Pia Romero. She was included in Star Circle Batch 11, joined variety show "ASAP" and bannered under other shows such as "k2BU," "Bora," "Your Song," and "Sa Piling Mo." However, she skyrocketed to blockbuster celebrity status after starring in the 2017 Manila Film Fest entry “Gandarapiddo: The Revenger Squad” and being the love interest of Gerald Anderson in “My Perfect You”. With regard to polishing her craft, she never misses out on improving her acting skills. Pia told Rappler, “You have to be aware of your strengths, your weaknesses, what you’re good at, and the things you are not good at. Work your way around them [your weaknesses] and then you find what your passion is and get the confidence from there.” Now, she is one of the recognized actresses in Filipino cinema today.

3. Pia uses her voice for to speak out on issues that matter.

Pia knows that her celebrity status should be used for a greater purpose. She didn’t miss out on making her voice heard on many socio-political issues worldwide. She is the newest UNAIDS Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific, with the main advocacy of generating HIV awareness and testing, which is one of the most pressing issues of the youth today. Not only has she supported the Reproductive Health Law, which promotes birth control in the Philippines, she has also encouraged gender equality and the recognition of the LGBT community. Pia knows that as a celebrity, she can be good example and inspire others. “You don’t have to be a beauty queen or to have a crown for you to inspire other people,” she said.
