Oprah Winfrey has praised Amy Schumer's work in empowering women, labelling her as the "modern-day warrior woman".
Amy has pushed to start conversations about issues surrounding women such as self-confidence, body positivity, and gender norms in her career as a comic and an actress. Her latest outing is "I Feel Pretty", which she produces and stars in as Renee, a regular woman who wakes up from a gym injury believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet.
"You have actually changed the way so many women perceive themselves and their lives. You have done that through your work, through your art, through yourself," Oprah told the actress in an interview last Sunday, April 22.
Praise from the legendary host moved Amy to tears, and she jokingly warned, "I will cry 90 seconds into this interview, so don't worry about that."
Now a very vocal feminist, Amy said that she "didn't set out" to be a women's rights champion in the beginning of her career. She explained, "I just wanted to perform and make people laugh, and then I realized people are paying attention. And you have this opportunity to be a voice for women and I have done my best to rise to that."
"I Feel Pretty" is set to hit Philippine theaters this May 2.
