Holy Week has always been a time spent with family in the Philippines. It is a solemn time that inspires everyone, even those with the coldest hearts, to reconcile any differences they might have at home.
There is beauty in rediscovering the fact that no matter how messy things get between you, your parents, and your siblings, love will always be present. Let these following scenes from Star Cinema movies help you find that love, and strengthen the bonds within your family.
1. The confrontation scene in “4 Sisters and a Wedding”
Okay, I’ve probably watched this movie a THOUSAND TIMES, and I still can’t help my tears from falling down whenever Teddy (Toni Gonzaga) starts begging for her mom’s (Coney Reyes) forgiveness. Of course, a full-on hurricane of tears come whenever Bobbie (Bea Alonzo) says her piece.
This is the perfect example of how no one else can understand you, secrets, mistakes, and all, better than your family can.
2. The beach bonding scene in “Seven Sundays”
This gem from 2017 is also a major tearjerker, but it also made me smile when the Bonifacio family (Ronaldo Valdez, Aga Muhlach, Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, and Enrique Gil) went to the beach and reminisced all the good memories they had when they were younger.
The scene really tugged at my heartstrings, cheesy as it may sound, because it showed that no matter how you get pissed at your family, there will always be good times to trump the bad.
3. “In My Life”
This movie is just SO GOOD (courtesy of our Inang Olivia Lamasan, John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano, and Vilma Santos) that I can’t pick just a single “family” scene. More than just a movie about a parent’s acceptance of her son’s sexuality, it is also a movie about finding family in people you’re not even related to.
“In My Life” tells us that you might not get to choose the family you’re born into, but you can always choose who to love and welcome into it.
4. The bathtub scene in “My Perfect You”
At first glance, “My Perfect You” is merely an ordinary rom-com featuring Gerald Anderson and Pia Wurtzbach. But looking deeper, it’s about how your family will stand by you and help you move past your problems. Dimples Romana’s touching performance in the bathtub scene will make you realize that there is truly no one who can give you genuine love more than your family.
“My Perfect You” is still showing in cinemas nationwide.
