Actor Albert Martinez truly made his mark on Philippine television and cinema after decades of being in the industry and he’s not stopping just yet.
His most recent projects include starring in four primetime series - he played Papa Tom in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” Prof. Theodore Montemayor in “La Luna Sangre,” Victor Buenavidez in “The Good Son,” and Agos in “Bagani.”
Albert shared his secret to a successful career in a recent interview with PUSH.
“Basta ako naman kasi, when I’m given the project, I give myself hundred percent to the project. And kung ano ‘yung character na binigay sa akin, focused ako dun,” he said.
“Kaya minsan, nagkakaroon kami ng mga problema like meeting palagi ng writers, ng directors, kasi masyado akong focused sa character,” he continued. “‘Pag nagkamali siya ng sulat, I have to discuss it with them. Umuupo kami palagi ‘pag ganun ‘yung sitwasyon.”
But despite his great career, Albert admitted that he does have some regrets about entering this line of work.
“Ang regret ko lang talaga, in this type of work, you will have to sacrifice,” he revealed.
He furthered, “Marami kaming moments na hindi namin na-spend together because I was at work. Maraming graduations ng [mga] anak ko na hindi ako nakapunta kasi I was at work. Marami akong birthday celebrations na hindi ako nag-celebrate sa bahay, nag-celebrate ako sa set.”
“Ang sinacrifice ko, ‘yung moments with your kids, moments with your wife,” he continued. “So when you look back, especially nga ngayon - kaya sinasabi kong regret kasi Liezl is not here anymore. Even if I want to payback, ano’ng ibabayad ko, [now that] she’s gone?”
Albert’s wife Liezl passed in 2015 after succumbing to breast cancer.
All the same, Albert continues to put his family first despite his busy schedule.
“Pagkatapos ng trabaho, uwi. At saka ang pinokus ko talaga ‘yung family. ‘Pag wala akong ginagawa, we go out of town ng pamilya ko,” he shared.
