Despite all the negativity thrown his way, Jake Zyrus has once again demonstrated that he is a good man with a good heart.
During his Star Music contract signing today, March 22, the trans singer spoke about the controversy that surrounds his shirtless photo, posted on Instagram while he was vacationing in Cagayan early this month, saying that he "understands" where his bashers are coming from.
"Para sa akin kasi parang dalawa 'yung nafi-feel ko: 'yung isa naiintindihan ko kasi 'yung iba hindi pa rin sanay na ang nakita nila before this [was a ] little girl with long hair wearing mini skirts. Tapos all of a sudden, [nagpapakita na] ng muscles, [tapos] biglang topless. So I completely understand that," he said.
However, Jake stressed that all the hate in the world won't stop him from finally being himself, loud and proud, to the public.
He said, "Proud ako eh. You're proud and you're happy kung ano 'yung nakikita mo, then why not?"
He pressed, "Hindi siya big deal sa akin. Masaya ako. Alam kong may sasabihin sila pero dedma. I mean, happy lang."
Jake was formerly known as Charice Pempengco. He came out as transexual June of 2017 and had breast removal surgery not long after.
