Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina has been bringing happiness and kilig to all Filipinos through her movies for 25 years, but the time has come for her to say goodbye (at least for now) to filmmaking.
At the “My Perfect You” Victory Bloggers Conference earlier today, March 15, the master director turned emotional as she shared why she needs to retire soon: to take care of her children.
“That’s one thing I learned in this movie… Pwede kang maging masaya sa lahat ng bagay but if there’s no one to share it with, what is it for? Kaya ko nga naisip na kailangan ko na mag-retire, kasi what is success for if not for my children? If I keep making movies, I’m not with my children, and I’d rather be with them,” she said.
Direk Cathy further said that although she loves making people happy through her movies, she can’t keep sacrificing the time she could’ve spent with her two kids.
“May dalawang anak akong napapabayaan… and I think I’ll give my time to them. Marami pang director diyan na paparating,” she said.
She continued that she’ll never be truly gone. As long as there are stories to tell, she can and will come back.
“Siguro kapag may kwentong gustung-gusto kong ikwento, I can come back and make one,” she said. “Ayaw kong iwan ‘to, I love telling stories… but for now, hayaan niyo muna ako [mag-retire] kasi ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob umalis sa industriya.”
“My Perfect You” stars Gerald Anderson and Pia Wurtzbach. Produced by ABS-CBN Films, Star Cinema, it is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
