First Star Cinema romcom 'May Minamahal' gets remastered

Stars and director of the 1993 Star Cinema movie "May Minamahal" relived young love yesterday, February 18, on the film's remastered premiere at Power Plant Mall, Rockwell.

Just before the screening, writer and director Jose Javier Reyes and the cast had an opportunity to share their thoughts about the movie's relaunch.

Direk Joey, speaking to his cast, said:

"You know guys, we should take pride, because 'May Minamahal' is the very first Star Cinema Rom-Com (romantic-comedy). And 25 years later, they are following our tradition."

In "May Minamahal," Carlitos (Aga) was forced to become the breadwinner of an all-female household when their father died. He then met Monica (Aiko) who grew-up in a family headed by her father and two older brothers. Carlitos and Monica then tried to make their way around their very different family backgrounds and were faced with the ultimate dilemma of balancing their priorities in their family and in their relationship.

Among the cast present were lead stars Aga Muhlach and Aiko Melendez; together with Agot Isidro, Boots Anson-Roa, Nikka Valencia, Bimbo Bautista, Ogie Diaz, and Malou Crisologo.

Multi-awarded actor Aga Muhlach meanwhile said that he's more than happy to see old friends and familiar faces again, adding his appreciation to ABS-CBN Film Restoration head Leo Katigbak, for restoring "May Minamahal".

He said, "Maraming salamat sa mga ginagawa mo, at least 'yung mga pelikula namin na hindi na nakita ng mga kabataan eh mapapanood na ng mga anak namin."

Among the special celebrity guests spotted last night were Aga's wife Charlene Gonzales, Joseph Marco, Ria Atayde, Luis Alandy, and RK Bagatsing.

"May Minamahal" is among the digitally-restored films that will be shown in Power Plant Cinema from February 21 to 27.
