Serene. Beautiful. Dangerous. Three words that the newly crowned Miss Universe and the Mayon Volcano have in common.
Earlier today, December 17, the world --- the universe rather, witnessed once again a lethal combination of beauty and brains as the Bicolano descendant from Albay Catriona Gray finished the competition in Bangkok as the rightful owner of the Miss Universe crown.
We feasted on her "Daragang Magayon" (Beautiful lady) inspired lava-colored gown that only she can pull of as she walked her way to victory. And in case you missed it, here are the details behind the crown-winning gown sketched and made by Mak Tumang.
On his Facebook, the designer revealed trivia on Catriona's gown. "MAYON: Fiery and Lovely Perfection Today, Catriona is coming home. She is celebrating her roots – she is celebrating Albay! The prominent and iconic Mayon Volcano is the penultimate inspiration for this creation," he wrote
He furthered, "It is dubbed as the ‘perfect cone’ because of its symmetric conical form. Folktales have it that it was named after the mythological heroine ‘Daragang Magayon’ (Beautiful Lady). Despite its pulchritude is the fact that it is the most active volcano in the Philippines erupting numerous times in the past half a millennium."
"Catriona can be considered as the modern-day Daragang Magayon. She embodies the Filipina’s beauty, intelligence, and burning passion. This lady is definitely on fire! Watch her erupt right before your very eyes and let the lava of grace, goodness and hope flow."
