Pia Wurtzbach is the epitome of poise under pressure.
The Miss Universe 2015 recently opened up about her heartwarming rags-to-riches life story in an effort to inspire others to rise above their status. Pia began her journey at 11 years old, when she became her family's breadwinner. She wrote, "I’ve worked countless jobs from waiting tables to packing boxes in a paper factory — a testament that I hustled on and never gave up ‘til I reached my dreams."
She continued, "Being Miss Universe 2015 is a big and beautiful achievement, but being my ultimate is a continuous journey of self-discovery, self-love, and self-care so I can be a vessel to inspire others."
A netizen pointed out in the comments section that 11 was too young for anyone to begin working, and questioned Pia:
"You're basically telling everyone that your parents let you work when you were 11. Let you feed and support them instead of them working and supporting you. I'm confused and curious. What were they doing when you were 11? Just [sitting] around waiting for you to come home from work?"
Pia handled the question with positivity, writing back, "Wala po kaming nilabag na batas. Mahirap lang po talagang lumaki sa hirap and I'm not ashamed of where I came from. I'm sharing my story na kung kinaya ko, kaya niyo rin!"
Kudos to you, Pia! <3
Pia topbilled the Cathy Garcia-Molina romantic drama "My Perfect You" alongside Gerald Anderson last March. She also starred in the mega-hit comedy "The Revenger Squad" alongside Vice Ganda and Daniel Padilla. It was ABS-CBN Films, Star Cinema's official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival for 2017.
