It’s always tough seeing our parents lose control of their emotions, especially when you know you’ve caused it. But no need to worry, because our girl Leila Alcasid brought her dad Ogie Alcasid to tears for all the right reasons.
It happened at her very own contract signing with Star Music at the Star Creatives office today, January 31, when the OPM icon realized that Leila is starting her music career the same age as he did.
"I remember I started when I was your age,” he said as he tried to fight back tears. "Parang nag-full circle."
"It's her time. It makes so happy na nakikita ko 'yun. So joyful, so blessed, so thankful. I'm really grateful to ABS-CBN that they gave her this chance, because she is very talented. She's very smart, kind, she's very humble."
Aside from being the supportive father to Leila, Ogie also serves as her manager and he admitted that he had a few warnings for her before giving her his blessing to follow this passion.
"Mahirap 'to. It's not an easy job, there are a lot of sacrifices that come with it. Maraming bashers lalo na ngayon. But if this is what you like doing, I'm 100% supportive of her,” he said.
The “Nakakalokal” hitmaker reminded his daughter to keep her studies a priority. "Sabi ko 'wag niyang kalimutan 'yung pag-aaral niya, alam niya 'yun."
Of course, Leila feels beyond grateful to have someone as talented as Ogie to guide her through it all. "I'm very blessed to have him as my manager. I can't imagine having anyone else. He knows me, he knows what I want to do, he knows my comforts and when I feel nervous. Everything I've done so far and everything I'll get to do, I wanna do it with him there. I feel very blessed to hear all the things he has to say. I'm happy to have his expertise, his knowledge, his experience, I'm very honored."
Another thing she sees to be an honor to do is to someday sing one of his dad’s compositions.
"It would really be an honor to be able to sing something of my dad's. It would be a dream of mine,” she said.
Right now, Leila is focused on working on her own music which she described as “relaxed, light, and bubbly” kind of pop. She’s also keen on improving her stage skills as well.
Watch out her for upcoming single “Complete In Love,” dropping this February 23 on Spotify.
