The Chinese action movie "A Better Tomorrow 4" makes its way to the Philippines through Star Cinema. Before it launches nationwide tomorrow, January 31, the film had a special screening for media friends and bloggers yesterday, January 29, at Gateway Cinema inQuezon City.
An adaptation of the 1986 John Woo-directed original film "A Better Tomorrow," the 2018 version took the modern approach to the iconic brotherhood bloodshed saga.
Some of the guests remarked how the value of family and brotherhood are embedded underneath all the action scenes, with statements such as "It's not just an action movie, punung-puno siya ng pagmamahal," and "It's a thrilling experience, pero na-feel ko na emotional din pala 'yung pelikula. It's a family movie."
The guests also noted how it's a movie offering for the Filipino audience who miss action films.
Some of the reactions went, "You can see the humanity in the characters," and "You will be on the edge of your seats, especially on the action scenes."
"A Better Tomorrow 4" is a story of two brothers Kai and Chao – who are on opposite sides of the law. Kai heads a smuggling operation, while his younger brother Chao is an up-and-coming star in the police department’s narcotics division.
Chao has looked up to his older brother all his life, but after a botched drug deal leads to the death of their father, the former swears off all contact with Kai.
Can the brothers ever forgive each other? And can Kai change himself for the better?
"A Better Tomorrow 4" opens in cinemas nationwide tomorrow, January 31.
