The legendary director Maryo delos Reyes has passed away. Direk Maryo was attending a birthday party in Dipolog City when he suffered a heart attack last night, January 27. He was 65 years old.
According to reports, he was rushed to Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital and was declared dead on arrival.
Direk Maryo's brother Manny delos Reyes took to Facebook earlier today, January 28, to make a statement regarding Direk Maryo's passing.
He wrote, "The entire Delos Reyes and Jorolan families are mourning his loss and request all to say a prayer and especially the media to be respectful of our current grief and sorrow at this time."
Direk Maryo was the genius behind the 2003 classic "Magnifico" which won the Crystal Bear at the 2004 Berlin International Film Festival's Children's Category. He also directed 2007's "A Love Story" starring Maricel Soriano, Angelica Panganiban and Aga Muhlach.
His last film, "The Unmarried Wife", was an award-winning hit when it was released back in 2016.
