ABS-CBN news reporter Chiara Zambrano earned a spot in the Top Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) for 2017, in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.

She was recognized for her exceptional documentary coverage of the Marawi siege titled "'Di Ka Pasisiil," and also for “Spratlys, Mga Isla ng Kalayaan".

In an ABS-CBN News story last January 12, Chiara shared that her passion for storytelling keeps her coming back to create documentaries.

She said, "There’s really something about documentaries that make me happy while I’m doing it. Of course, news reporting is a different beast in itself. It has its own sense of fulfillment. But you know it’s just a matter of preference, and that’s why I decided this year to kind of take a break from all the chaos that we involved ourselves in and to revert to my first love. So, I’m out here now studying to do better documentaries and it’s been a great experience so far."

Chiara was part of the investigative program "The Correspondents" before she became a news reporter.

"Our bosses are kind enough and they trust me enough to give me the chance to do both. So, most of the time I do news [but] I still give the space to do documentaries," she shared.

Talking about her coverage for Marawi, Chiara enthused, "Reporting about wars isn’t so much about the weapons and the war. The clash and the bang. It’s really I think one of the most human beats that you can tell because you are literally talking about lives lost. And lives saved. And lives shattered by war. That’s why it works for me."

Chiara follows ABS-CBN broadcast journalist and news anchor Karen Davila's recognition as a TOYM awardee in 2009.
