They might have parted ways already, but Bela Padilla and Neil Arce are proud to say they worked on the story of “Last Night” together.
The pair related during the film's media launch earlier today, September 21, that the idea for "Last Night" came to them while they were driving around Manila.
“Ako ‘yung nagda-drive tapos tinanong ko si Bela, ‘What if two people met on a bridge about to commit suicide?’ Then nagbatuhan na kami ng ideas,” he said.
Bela continued that they spent almost an entire day driving around the Adriatico area before she wrote the story down.
“Nagsulat ako overall ng two days… tapos binigay ko na kay Direk Joyce (Bernal),” she said.
Bela and Neil further related that it took almost three years before the film went into production because they wanted everything to be perfect.
“This project is very important to me… kaya hindi kami pumayag na hindi namin gusto ‘yung cast, hindi namin gusto ‘yung director,” he said. “Hindi kami pumayag hanggang hindi tama lahat. Baby talaga namin siya.”
Asked whether the story is based on their own love story, Bela answered no.
“Completely fictional siya, walang pinanggalingan,” she said.
“Last Night” marks Bela’s debut as a scriptwriter. It stars Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga and is directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal. It opens in cinemas September 27.
