People come up to us all the time with “Have you lost weight?” or “You look like you gained some weight.”
Weight is something that a lot of people feel sensitive about and hearing the wrong things about it, may make them feel a lot worse. It shouldn’t be used to flatter anyone or acknowledged point blank, because really, there are million more ways to strike a conversation.
Good thing Miss World 2013 Megan Young raised it as an issue on Twitter last Wednesday, August 30, by saying “Commenting on someone’s weight as a conversation starter just completely ends it.”
It recevied thousands of nods (likes and retweets) from her followers, including singer Jed Madela.
He wrote back, “So true. I’m always a victim of that. If only I could find a mean bone in me to reply back.”
Jed and Megan also gained a confidant in Broadway diva Lea Salonga. Replying to Jed’s sentiments, she wrote, “I have plenty.”
