The country’s Star for All Seasons is proving she is still shining up to this day. Vilma Santos was awarded the 2017 Natatanging Gawad Urian last night, July 20, at the 40th Gawad Urian.
Before the star-studded awards night began, the veteran actress and her husband Sen. Ralph Recto caught up with members of the media.
“I’m lucky enough to be given eight awards. Kaya ayun lang ay dapat ko nang ipagpasalamat,” she said about the total number of awards she received from Gawad Urian through the years. After her statement, Sen. Recto reacted with, “Very modest 'yung asawa ko. Eight awards lang. ‘Di na kakasya sa bahay namin 'yung mga trophy niya.”
Ate Vi, presently a congresswoman in the province of Batangas, has been very well praised for her achievements in the industry. Her response when the press commended her is, “Salamat po. I’m home. Alam naman ng lahat na galing ako sa industriya, so I’m home. Hindi ito bago sa akin so malaking bagay itong karangalan na ibibigay para sa akin, despite now that I am a public servant.”
“Napakasarap 'yung pakiramdam na hindi ka pa rin nakakalimutan ng industriya kung saan napakalaki ng utang na loob ko up to this day,” she added.
She also shared that for now, she is not working on any project because she is focused on her career as a legislator. She even referred to her husband as her mentor.
“I’m trying to learn muna 'yung mga dapat gawin as a legislator, because hindi joke," she related. "Nagle-legislate ka ng mga batas, at ayoko namang maging clueless so binibigyan ko ng time para mag-aral .”
Vilma starred in the blockbuster film "Everything About Her" with Angel Locsin and Xian Lim last year.
