'NakakaLokal!' Ogie reintroduces his music with new album

Ogie Alcasid had an open rehearsal yesterday, July 19, for his first album under Star Music, “NakakaLokal”.
The OPM icon collaborated with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Gerard Salonga. Indeed, this has been a dream-come-true collaboration for Ogie. This album is also the first joint project the ensemble’s had with a solo artist.
The 10-track album contains six original compositions, three cover songs, and a powerful medley with none other than his wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
Hearing the orchestral arrangement of the songs and Ogie’s soulful renditions together definitely brought about something magical. Even Ogie himself couldn’t deny the magic created by having everything come together. “Only the Philharmonic can do that to my songs,” he admitted. Maestro Gerard agreed that having an orchestra present in the songs’ arrangements allows Ogie’s music to “speak more”.
During the interview after the rehearsal, questions inevitably came up about the reception of the younger audience towards his music. Ogie believes that it will have a positive effect on them, his own 19-year-old daughter Leila being a fan of the songs herself. “At the same time, it's also my way of introducing to them, ito 'yung mga songs na ginawa ko for Star Cinema 15 years ago,” said Ogie.
Star Music audio content head Jonathan Manalo, the album’s producer, attributes "NakakaLokal's" projected appeal to the “evergreen” element found in the arrangements and the hugot expressed in the songs’ lyrics. “These kinds of arrangements… will stand the test of time,” he said. “Tried and tested 'to na kahit anong age group mo, there's that part in you na maga-appeal sa'yo kasi evergreen 'yung mga ganitong istilo and at the same time, very relatable 'yung lyrics na ginawa ni Sir Ogie.”
Behind every original composition in the album is a story. “I have to admit to all of you that every song that I wrote happened to me. Is it a gift? I don't know. It's probably a curse,” Ogie confessed. Some of these songs are "'Di Na Muli” and “Akala Ko”.
Ogie’s official album launch will take place this Saturday, July 22, at Robinsons Magnolia.
