Band Agsunta and solo artist Migz Haleco signed with Star Music earlier today, July 13.
Agsunta’s Jireh Singson (vocalist), Mikel Arevalo (lead guitarist), Josh Planas (bassist), and Stephen Arevalo (drummer) walked in to Star Music’s office with smiles on their faces, excited for the contract signing that was about to take place.
The band has been around for five years since they first came together in at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde. They named their band after their chairperson then, Agnes Agsunta.
“May nabasa din kami na parang jumbled letters siya ng ‘sugatan,’” noted lead guitarist Mikel. Since then, the band has been writing songs of alternative rock genre with a 90s sound. What they feel sets them apart is the different kind of emotion they channel when they perform their songs. “Feel ko nakita nila 'yung emosyon namin sa pagtugtog na hindi po siguro common," he added.
The band started making a name for themselves in the local music scene through YouTube using the hashtag #AgsuntaSongRequests. Through this, they made covers people have come to enjoy. Eventually, they began to find their niche.
Now that they are signed with Star Music, however, the Agsunta understands that they’ll be busier. Even so, they’ll definitely make time to go back to YouTube because they really enjoyed making covers.
They hope to release their eight-track album before the year ends and they’re looking forward to the release of their first record under Star Music.
Migz Haleco, the former half of the duo Migz and Maya, has eventually chosen to ride solo with his music career.
He’s definitely adjusting to not having to share the stage. "Medyo naninibago din ako and sobrang na-overwhelm din ako" Migz expressed. "Dati, sanay din ako na may ka-duo. Ngayon talaga, iba rin 'yung pressure sa'kin ng pagiging solo artist. Mas matrabaho."
Migz admitted that going solo has doubled his work. Nonetheless, he’s excited to release his own songs. “Mas gusto kong marinig 'yung mga songs na sinusulat ko talaga. I write my own songs.”
His songs also take an alternative acoustic kind of sound, but their originality is what’s getting him pumped, especially being signed under Star Music. He also draws inspiration from the experiences of others making the songs more relatable to more people.
