#ReelxReal Exclusive: How Gimme 5 changed since their debut

After taking a break, Gimme 5 is back with a new album titled “Sophomore” and this time, the boys got the vibe closer to their personality.
“Mas hands-on kami kesa sa first album namin kasi ‘yung tunog na mas gusto namin nakuha namin,” Joaquin Reyes said. His fellow member Grae Fernandez added, “Mas marami kaming time mag-prepare para dun sa album namin.”
Nash Aguas, who stands as the group’s Kuya, got to contribute a song that he wrote for this album too, which he said sounds a bit different from what they usually do.
“Nagpasa ako ng ilang songs tapos ‘yung ilang songs na sinulat ko, sinulat ko talaga siya para sa Gimme 5 talaga. ‘Yung melody, mas lively. Pero ‘yung ‘First Love’, ‘yung isa sa mga sinulat ko, ‘yun ‘yung hindi pang-Gimme 5, kumbaga sinama ko lang din sa mga sinulat ko. Surprisingly, ‘yun ‘yung nakuha nila,” said Nash.
Their music taste wasn’t the only thing that matured with the Gimme 5 boys. In our interview with them yesterday, June 1, they shared that their friendship got stronger as well.
Brace Arquiza said, “Mas marami kaming natutunan, sa three years na ‘yun. So kumbaga binaon namin sa album na ‘to, ‘yung natutunan namin.” And for Joaquin, “Para siyang bagong chapter eh, lahat ng naipon naming bagong knowledge before, ishu-showcase namin dito sa second album.”
Gimme 5 hopes to expand their range as a band as well by doing other genres like alternative rock and collaborating with artists like Bailey May, Ylona Garcia, and rap icon Gloc-9, according to John Bermundo.
