Lea Salonga speaks up about 'Mulan' controversy
No songs in "Mulan"? No problem, for Lea, at least.
Living legend Lea Salonga remains unbelievably excited for Disney's live-action remake of "Mulan", whether or not there will be songs in it.
Fans were infuriated when the remake's director Niki Caro announced that the new film will scrap all the musical elements from the beloved original. Meanwhile Lea, who lent her singing voice to Mulan way back in 1998 ("Reflection," ladies and gents), welcomed the changes.
"So what do I think about the live-action Mulan not having the songs? I think it's pretty cool! Let the film be a different thing altogether!" Lea wrote on Twitter last night, March 21.
It is of note that the live action remake of Cinderella was directed by Kenneth Branagh and was released in 2015. It, too, was a non-musical reimagining of the original.

The award-winning performer also voiced Princess Jasmine's singing parts in 1992's "Aladdin".
She is set to return as coach in the reality talent search "The Voice of the Philippines Teens" soon.
