ABS-CBN execs reveal the reasons why Angel Locsin let go of
Angel Locsin, together with ABS-CBN executives, have confirmed that she will indeed relinquish her role as the iconic Filipina superhero Darna.

The statement was released in a "TV Patrol" report that aired tonight, March 20. A part of it read:

"ABS-CBN, Star Cinema and Angel Locsin have mutually arrived at a final decision that she will no longer pursue the 'Darna' movie due to her medical condition."

According to Star Creatives COO Malou N. Santos, the company's decision to put Angel's health over "Darna" is final.

She said, "She can't play Darna kasi mas importante ang buhay niya kaysa sa pelikula ng 'Darna'. Kumbaga, napatunayan ko 'yung dedication ni Angel Locsin sa craft niya kasi despite the fact na nagkaroon siya ng sakit sa likod, kung kaya niyang ilihim sa amin ay ililihim niya pero na-discover namin because she really wants to play Darna."

"Darna" director Erik Matti voiced his disappointment about the decision, but insisted that it is the right one.

He said, "'Yung project talaga entails a lot of physical requirements from the actor. There's gonna be the harness, there's gonna be a lot of flight. Medyo ayaw din namin mag-risk kasi kawawa din siya. Sayang lang, kasi she would have been really good."

ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak echoed the lauded director's statement, saying, "We're very sad and disappointed about this latest development but of course, 'yung safety at health ni Angel is her number one priority."

He adds, "She's still one of our biggest stars so marami pa siyang gagawin sa ABS-CBN."

In the same report, Angel announced that she is set to star in upcoming film projects with James Reid and Coco Martin, the latter of which will be directed by the great Olivia M. Lamasan.

She will also join John Lloyd Cruz as they reprise their roles in "Lobo" and "Imortal" in a special participation for the forthcoming sequel, "La Luna Sangre," which stars Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
