Blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina is nothing but all praises to her lead stars Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil in the much-awaited film "My Ex and Whys."
At the film's grand media launch yesterday, February 1, the acclaimed director shared the difference between working with LizQuen in television and in the big screen.
"The first time I got to work with Liza is in 'Got To Believe' wherein third wheel siya ng KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla). And the next time I worked with her is 'Forevermore.' It was the first time I worked with Quen too," Direk Cathy shared.
She added, "Of course as much as it was our first time noon sa teleserye, 'di siya ganun kaiba. Working with them again, as far as getting to know them [parehas lang]."
Direk Cathy went on to share the challenges Liza and Enrique faced in portraying their roles Cali and Gio, respectively.
"Working with them in a film, na-realize ko na iba talaga ang kakaibahan especially on the characters that they are playing," the director explained. "Sobra po talagang hirap 'cause it's very far from who they really are."
Direk Cathy then commended the two for all the efforts they put in for the film.
"I would like to tell everybody that they really worked hard for it. I am very happy kung ano po ang naibigay nila," she said.
Another thing that makes the film more challenging is Liza and Enrique playing characters that are "less innocent" than they actually are in real life.
"Liza is 19, she's playing a 24-year-old. Quen is pareho lang. But as far as experiences in love is concerned, wala pa. Wala pa po talaga. Bubot pa talaga ang mga ito. Ang hirap talaga sa writers, sa akin, 'yung pain ko, pain ng character, pain ng kakilala namin para ipaalam sa kanila ang salitang regret.
"Paano ba makita ulit ang ex na nanakit sa'yo? Si Liza wala pa namang ex. I would like to tell you everyone na I'm very proud of these two because they were able to give their best," Direk Cathy related.
The blockbuster director also revealed who she saw in Enrique while shooting some important scenes.
"I'm very happy for Quen. This is Quen in his simplest form. Minsan nga nakita ko si John Lloyd [sa kanya] sa isang eksena talaga. Promise. Meron talaga [na napasabi ako] na 'Uy, kaya na ni Quen 'yun oh.' Serious," she proudly relayed.
Direk Cathy is in awe of Liza's acting prowess when it comes to drama because....
"Si Liza naman alam naman natin 'to 'pag dramahan. Hinasa na rin ito ng telebisyon. Hirap na hirap siya sa'kin dito sa kwento na 'to dahil iba-ibang iyak ang kailangan mo. Iba-ibang sama ng loob. Iba-ibang pain," she explained.
In the end, Direk Cathy reiterated, "I must commend them dahil sa kabila ng 'di pa nila napagdaanan, ginampanan naman po nila nang maganda."
"My Ex and Whys" follows the story of Cali (Liza Soberano), a blogger who owns the up and coming blog, "The Bakit List," and her ex Gio (Enrique Gil), who will return to her life unexpectedly and surprisingly.
Can you really still love someone who caused you pain?
This "most beautiful Valentine" film will be out in cinemas starting Feb. 15!
