Proof that 2017 is totes the Year of Celebrity Memes

By Regina Tabora and Chandral Selim

More than the blessings and disasters it gave all of us, 2017 will probably go down in history as the Year of the Meme.

For every situation we faced (both good and bad), there was a corresponding meme we could post that described our feelings PRECISELY and CONCISELY (you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words… 😉).

Some of our favorite stars were… well… the stars of these memes, and so we compiled seven that made us say “Sobrang accurate… NAKAKALOKA!” this 2017.

Here they are:

1. “Pangit ba ako?” from “My Ex and Whys”

We all wanted to simultaneously hug and scream at Liza Soberano when she sobbed out this iconic line from “My Ex and Whys.” Teh, ikaw na ang may pinakamagandang fez sa mundo (CONFIRMED!), mag-iinarte ka pa?

All jokes aside, this is a pretty classic meme you can use every time you experience relationship problems. (Or kapag nagmamaganda ka, puwede rin naman.)

2. Kris Aquino covers songs

All of the Kris Aquino memes that sprung up this year were gold, but those in the set above arguably take the cake this year.

No one can deny the Queen of All Media has a unique way of speaking, and they can definitely carry over when she speaks in various situations - even when she "covers" Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You"! LMAO.

3. Shocked Yael Yuzon

ErwAnne’s (Erwan Heussaff and Anne Curtis) wedding after-party was WILD, and Yael was probably shookt over what was happening around him.

This is perfect for all your walwal sessions, when your BFFs have long gone past the point of social propriety. Hinay-hinay lang kasi, mga besh! 😂

4. Maris “macho” Racal

We could all get mortifying moments when a video is paused at the absolute wrong time, and Maris knows this experience all too well!

The singer-actress looked ready to fight (instead of ready to dance) during one of her “ASAP” performances with the BFF5.

Heads up Maris, we love you no matter what! 😘

5. Woke Maja Salvador

One of the year’s most meme-able actresses, Maja Salvador had woke Twitter using one of her lines from “Wildflower” as a reaction to anyone helplessly unaware of what was going on.

Kasi nga, 'wag si Ivy Aguas!

6. Sarah “GG” Geronimo

Sarah Geronimo defines what it means to be a demure young woman in the Philippines, so it shocked all of us when a photo of her phone (where she just sent a very looooong text message) went viral, prompting us all to think: BEAST MODE NA BA SI SARAH????

7. “C’mon guys, it’s 2017!”

Nadine Lustre is known nationwide as a trendsetter, so it’s no surprise she’s become a trending meme virtually overnight.

We’ve all come to use it as answer to anyone who still questions every single thing we do. I mean, c’mon guys. It’s 2017!

HONORARY MENTION: Anything from “Four Sisters and a Wedding.”

Even though it opened in cinemas in 2013, “Four Sisters and a Wedding” continues to transcend the borders of time with its quotable (and meme-able) lines. The four Salazar sisters will most likely pop up in your timelines at least every two weeks, at hindi kasalanan ni Bobbie ‘yun!

We can’t wait to see what memes 2018 is going to bring us next!

Happy New Year from Star Cinema!
