Primetime King Coco Martin debuted as film director and producer in his Metro Manila Film Festival 2017 entry "Ang Panday".
Hailing from the independent film scene and eventually breaking his way into television, Coco has brought all that he learned in the industry to help him create the special project of reimagining the Fernando Poe, Jr. iconic Pinoy superhero movie.
During the press conference of "Ang Panday" yesterday, November 20, Coco was asked about the director who inspired him to become one.
He answered, "Definitely si Brillante Mendoza.
To which Direk Brillante replied to Coco, "'Eh dati ko pa naman sinasabi sa'yo eh, kaya mo 'yan eh.'"
Coco starred in a number of Direk Brillante's critically-acclaimed films.
Direk Brillante's advice to Coco, is to ask help from professionals who can take care of the technical aspect so that he could focus on directing.
The award-winning actor followed this advice and asked help from Malu Sevilla, director of "FPJ's Ang Probinsiyano." especially in characterization. And for the fight scenes of "Ang Panday," he has the likes of Direk Toto Natividad to guide him.
When they wrapped up filming, Coco shared that he is happy with what they came up with.
"Sobrang happy naman ako kasi lahat ng nasa isip ko, nangyari," he said.
"Ang Panday" is an official entry to the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival. Catch it this Christmas!
