Hashtags Tom recounts last moments with Franco

When Hashtags member Tom Doromal found out that the group would have a two-day vacation, he asked the others to come down to their beach resort in Davao Occidental for some fun time last November 11.

Franco Hernandez agreed to go and brought his girlfriend Janica Nam Floresca along with them. Sabi niya, ‘Sige, Tom.’”

The group got to the Mindanao province later than they intended to because their flight was rebooked.

“Flight namin 6 a.m., tapos nung 6 a.m., nagulat kami ba’t wala pa yung flight namin. ‘Di ba ‘pag sa aiport may last call? Hindi pa tinawag ‘yung pangalan namin and everything. Tapos pina-rebook na nila, 9 a.m. yata or 10 a.m., nag-fly kami ng Davao,” Tom recalled.

Visiting one of the falls in town was supposed to be the first thing on their itinerary, but they decided not to because the place was hit by the rain the day before. So they chose to explore the beach instead.

He said, “Una, balak talaga namin mag-falls kaso umulan sa place namin, tapos sabi ‘yung falls pangit na.

On their way back to the shore, they noticed water filling in their boat so Tom and Franco had to jump out of the boat leaving their female companions on it.

“Napasukan na talaga ng tubig buo, edi tumalon na silang lahat so nagulat na lang ako kasi sila Nam saka si Franco nandun na sa medyo malayo,” he told “Rated K”.

The boatmen that they were with rescued Franco and Nam. They gave Franco cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before taking him to the hospital. “Tinry kong i-revive. Ni-rush namin sa hospital."

But, “After a while kinausap ako, sabi nga wala na daw” and Franco was declared dead on arrival due to drowning.

Franco's remains were cremated last Friday, November 17, after a ceremony attended by his family and friends.
