Is Aga Muhlach returning to his romantic drama roots?

"It's my being overweight," was Aga Muhlach's answer when asked why he's been adamantly refusing leading man roles in romantic films.

According to the legendary actor, his weight gain during his six-year movie hiatus has been a major hindrance and he's taking steps to shed the pounds.

"I struggled for how many years losing weight dahil nagpahinga talaga ako. Every year na may nago-offer sa 'kin ng love story, parang hindi ko kaya," he said candidly during the "Seven Sundays" Press Conference last October 8.

He continued, "Hindi ko kaya na lumabas na leading man na ganitong itsura ko."

Aga went on to reveal that that was one of the reasons why "Seven Sundays", his recently-released hit comeback film, was so appealing.

"When the script was offered sa akin, sinabi sa akin na 'You don't have to lose weight. You're okay. But if you want to diet along the way, then go ahead, but the character doesn't ask for that.;"

He added, "Of course, nag-start naman ako mag-dyeta rin, but ako magda-diet ako if I'm pushed against the wall."

Aga is set to star in two upcoming films, both of which is slated to begin filming soon. In the meantime, you can walk down memory lane and watch some of Aga's best cinematic moments here:

“Seven Sundays” tells the story of the four Bonifacio siblings (Dingdong Dantes, Cristine Reyes, Enrique Gil and Aga Muhlach), who are forced to return to their childhood home when their Tatay Manuel (Ronaldo Valdez) is diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.

The film asks: As the Bonifacios confront their history, will they be able to reconnect and find redemption in each other?

"Seven Sundays" is now on its third week in cinemas!
