Charo Santos-Concio spread joy and hope to the inmates of the Correctional Institution for Women today, October 23.
The celebration, with the theme of gift-giving, is also done in appreciation of the stories that some of the inmates from the correctional submitted to the ABS-CBN show, "Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)." MMK is the longest-running drama anthology in Asia.
Charo, as the host of "MMK" and the chief content officer of ABS-CBN, headed the celebration together with BoybandPH and Inspirational Diva Jamie Rivera.
BoybandPH surely made the ladies at the correctional cheer for them during their performance.
Jamie Rivera also serenaded and inspired the audience with a touching song number, followed up by an energetic medley of dance classics.
In her speech during the program, Charo said that visiting the correctional last year helped her in playing her role in the critically-acclaimed film, "Ang Babaeng Humayo."
"I was here last year in April, I met with ilan sa mga kasamahan ninyo para matulungan ako sa aking pagganap sa papel ng isang babae na nanatili sa kulungan ng 35 years. At napakaganda po nang pakikipag-usap ko sa ilan sa inyo at malaking tulong po iyon sa aking pagganap. Nagawa ko po ang pelikulang 'Ang Babaeng Humayo.'
"Ang Babaeng Humayo," directed by Lav Diaz, went on to win the Golden Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival.
Charo also expressed her gratitude for the stories that the inmates shared, and encouraged everyone to continue sharing stories of their lives to give hope to fellow Filipinos as well.
"Maraming, maraming salamat po, nandito na naman po kami para makinig sa inyong mga kuwento. Ang 'MMK' po, ang inyong tahanan para maibahagi ninyo ang inyong mga saloobin, ang inyong mga aral, at ang pagbibigay ninyo ng pag-asa sa ating mga kababayan. And as I always say, mahalin po natin ang ating mga sarili, at huwag po tayong mawawalan ng pag-asa," she said.
"MMK" airs every Saturday night on ABS-CBN.
