Himig Handog, the biggest songwriting competition in the country, returns for another year to provide an avenue for Filipino composers to have their songs interpreted by the hottest local artists.
In the press conference today, October 12, Jonathan Manalo, Star Music audio content head, shared how difficult it was to cut down the finalists into 10 coming from the initial 6,000 song entries.
He said, "Pag-trim down pa lang to 10, ang hirap na po talaga. 'Yung quality po ng songs, one of the best batches po talaga ito. Iba-iba po 'yung style and sobrang fresh po 'yung mga ideas."
The song entries will be performed on "ASAP" starting this October 15 with Moira Dela Torre for Libertine Amistoso's song "Titibo-tibo"; and Janella Salvador, to sing "Wow Na Feelings" by Karlo Zabala.
On October 22, it will be Jona to give her interpretation of "Sampu," by Raizo Chabeldin and Biv De Vera; also Kaye Cal for Karl Gaurano and Teodoro Katigbak's composition "The Labo Song"; and Inigo Pascual who will give life to Aikee Aplacador's composition "Ekstensyon."
And on October 29, you can catch Migz Haleco to sing "Bes," written by Eric de Leon; Unit 406 to perform Gabriel Tagadtad's "Tanghaling Tapat,"; Jake Zyrus for Agatha Morallos' song entry "Bagyo,"; and Kyla and Jason Dy to duet for Soc Villanueva's "Tayo na Lang Kasi."
Jonathan added, "'Yung sampu po na finalists na 'yan, malayo po ang mararating. Merong mga mananalo, merong mga hindi magkakaroon ng prize, pero lahat po, sigurado kami, na maghi-hit 'yung mga songs."
The Himig Handog 2017 grand finals will be on November 6. For more information, visit Starmusic.ph or follow Star Music's official social media accounts.
