Believed to be the one who started Philippines’ winning streak in the Miss Universe pageants when she placed 4th runner-up in 2010, Venus Raj is now dubbed as “Ang Nagtapos ng Sumpa”, but she doesn’t really think so.
"Siyempre ayaw ko mag-claim na ako talaga. We know na all the girls from the Philippines have followed to compete, from Shamcey (Supsup), Janine (Tugunon), Ara (Arida), MJ (Lastimosa), and finally to Pia (Wurtzbach), lahat sila maganda lahat sila, may kanya-kanyang galing. So I'm just really honored kung yun ang tingin ng mga tao sa akin," she said in an interview with Push.
Being regarded with such a reputation, however, didn’t save Venus from bashers and controversies during her time. That’s why she feels for current Maxine Madina, who will representing the country in the coming 65th Miss Universe pageant.
"Sobrang relate ako kay Maxine ngayon sa mga bashers kasi during my time, many, many bashers are bashing me na pakiramdam ko nga talaga kung 'dapat ba talaga ako mag-compete o hindi?' Pero in a way that was also the Lord's way of introducing me to people dahil dun sa dethronement at dahil doon, nakilala ako ng mga tao hindi lang sa Pilipinas kundi sa international scene," she shared.
Right now, Venus is doing some modelling, acting, and hosting in her career and will again, be getting some attention interntationally playing a special part in the event.
"I will be doing the red carpet co-hosting, and during the competition sa backstage for Chi and I'm excited, I'm just really honored. Parang 2010 pa ako nanalo and now na dito gaganapin sa Pilipinas, mas malaking bagay na maging part ako ng Miss Universe,” she said.
The 65th Miss Universe pageant will be happening at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, with a live telecast on ABS-CBN at 8 a.m.
