EXCLUSIVE: Xian discusses his new indie film 'Corpus Delicti'
Xian Lim ended his 2016 with a bang (literally!), revealing his newest film project, a brave move to try action in an independent film titled "Corpus Delicti."

In an exclusive interview with us during a set visit, Xian shared his reasons why he accepted this project.

"This project is very different from what I usually do, and kumbaga ‘pag napapanood ng tao si Xian Lim, sinasabi nila, maiisip kaagad nila, ‘romantic comedy, drama.’ Pero ito 'yung naiiba naman and at the same time nakaka-excite dahil hindi pa nila ako nakikita sa ganitong klaseng pelikula," the Kapamilya actor said.

He added, "Kumbaga siguro, sundot-sundot lang. Sa mga pelilkula may mga konting habulan, pero ito, si Direk Toto he really took the liberty and help me out with my character and really explain the story na 'ganito ang pinagdadaanan ng character mo at ito ang mga rason kung bakit ginagawa ‘to ng character mo.’ So that adds so much more to it. Kumbaga, it adds a lot of spice to it."

Xian then described his character in the film.

"Ako dito si Mark Montejar at hinahanap ko 'yung kapatid ko. And througout the process, throughout that journey, maraming naga-unfold. Marami siyang nalalaman, and he’s actually gonna come across this character named Bert Corpuz who’s played by Raymond Bagatsing. And, he’s trying to solve the mystery ng disappearance ng kapatid niya," the actor explained.

He went on to spill more deets.

"Makakasama ko dito, kapatid ko [in the film] who’s gonna be played by Marco Gumabao. Also my partner, [who’s] gonna be Vin Abrenica. Marami pang iba. And also, my girlfriend, my fiance [in the film] is Loren Burgos. And 'yung talagang main kontrabida dito is Raymond Bagatsing na talagang nakakatakot pero sa totoong buhay, nice guy. Cool guy. Super cool guy," Xian said.

Doing an action film is not that easy. Aside from being emotionally ready, a person should also be physically ready for some extreme scenes that requires so much of your energy and effort and of course, some death-defying stunts.

So how did Xian prepare for it?

"Couple of months before the shoot, [I] took up boxing, did a lot of sports, physical activities, para naman fit para dito sa pelikua na ‘to," he relayed. "And basically just reading the script over and over, and understanding kung ano talaga 'yung pinagdadaanan ng character. Para mas may meaning, kumbaga, kung bawat kilos niya, maiintindihan ng mga manonood kung ano nga ba talaga 'yung motivations niya."

The 27-year-old actor also related the hardships in doing an action film through an anecdote.

"Hindi biro ang napapanood nila 'pag napanood nila ang action film, action movie. Akala nila madali, pero hindi madali (laughs). Mabilisang kwento:

"Yung isang fight scene namin dito, tiningnan ko sa guide after dinner break. Sabi ko, 'Bilis lang, matatapos na ‘ko.' Kasi nakalagay lang dun, ‘Out. Laban. Away ni Mark at ni Bert.’ So isa na lang, sabi ko, 'Yes, maaga ako matatapos, o.' Tapos malaman-laman ko pagka-check ko sa oras, 12 o’clock na. 1 a.m.. 2 a.m.. Natapos kami ng 3:30 a.m. dun sa isang sequence. That’s gonna be edited and shown to you guys for about only a minute. Sabihin natin mga six hours of work ‘yun and you guys will just see it in a flash. So hindi biro.

"And everyone here, lahat ng nagtatrabaho dito sa set, they’re really serious sa ginagawa nila. All the stuntmen, sila Raymond. Lahat sila, they’ve been taking martial arts for years. Talagang hindi biro, this is serious craft."

Now that Xian is already more exposed to independent films, do he see himself doing more in the future?

"Oo naman. I think, ‘yun talaga 'yung ang tagal ko nang hinahanap, but mahirap makakuha. Like what I said sa past interviews ko, getting projects is really tough. So, [I’m] really blessed and really grateful na nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon dito sa indie na ‘to. And if there are more opportunities along the way for 2017, why not 'di ba?" he said with a smile.

According to Merriam Webster, "Corpus Delicti" means body of the crime. It is a substantial and fundamental fact necessary to prove the commission of a crime.

"Corpus Delicti" is directed by Toto Natividad and produced by Cinebro.

You can catch more of Xian's acting prowess in his other starring film with Coleen Garcia under Star Cinema and the direction of Jason Paul Laxamana.
