What makes a Yeng Constantino?

By Netchai Moldes

Like any dreamer, Yeng admitted that her journey wasn't easy. Yet with her family's support, she got to enjoy the journey.

It started out more than 10 years ago, when Yeng used to audition to almost every reality show that ABS-CBN produced. She shared the story of her life on "Magandang Buhay" today, September 15.

1. She never gave up.

"'Star Circle Quest,' 'Star In A Million,' 'Search For A Star,' 'Search For A Star In A Million,' lahat ng ginawa ng ABS[-CBN] na-audition-an ko po 'yan," she shared.

Yeng recalled that when she auditioned for "Star Circle Quest," a camera just panned across them. Then someone enumerated those who passed the screen test.

"Kasama po ako sa thank you, bye," she revealed.

2. She put her family's dreams first before hers.

Her mom and dad were there to support her in every audition.

So ako parang, 'Okay lang sige, kung matutulungan ko ang pamilya ko na maahon sa hirap then I would do it,'" she added.

"Pero kung papipiliin talaga ako, I want to be a rock star!" she revealed.

3. She never thought that her love for  writing songs will lead her to her own road.

In an exclusive interview at the press preview of "Ako Si Josephine," she said that she only dreamed about writing songs before.

"I started writing songs inside my bedroom sa Montalban, Rizal. Never sumagi po sa isipan ko na one day, magkakaroon ako ng ganitong klaseng proyekto," she related.

4. She never expected finishing first place in "Pinoy Dream Academy."

"Never ko nga naisip na makakapasok ako sa loob, so 'yung being there sa 'Pinoy Dream Academy' is a blessing in itself. One of my greatest achievements in life back then."

5. With her six albums and around seven major concerts, Yeng learned not only to make songs about her life but also for other people.

Her first and second albums mostly had the same "hugot." Eventually, she has written for other artists such as Jolina Magdangal and Sarah Geronimo.

6. Her impromptu song at her digital concert, "Paasa," is now a full single off her upcoming album.

Lumabas lang 'yung song," she said.

7. She did an impromptu song for Melai by getting inspiration from her beauty.

Yeng said that there is something about Melai that whenever she sees her smile, it lightens up her day.

8. She composed "Hawak Kamay" when she was just 14 for her cousin.

She and her cousin had a pinky swear that they will never leave each other's side.

One day, her cousin ran away and never came back. She was so heartbroken and decided to write about it.

9. Her mom cried when she first heard "Hawak Kamay" on the radio.

Biglang lumabas si Mama nang umiiyak as in (mimicked her Mom, crying).

10. 2016 is her most blessed year yet because everything seems to have fallen into place.

"This year talaga nakita 'yung fruit ng mga pinaggagagawa ko na pagsulat ng kanta," she said.

Yeng became one of the judges of "Tawag Ng Tanghalan" on "It's Showtime," "We Love OPM: The Celebrity Sing-Offs," and now, "Pinoy Boyband Superstar" with Sandara Park, Aga Muhlach, and Vice Ganda.

Her song for the past 10 years were chosen and was given a new arrangement for the musical play, "Ako Si Josephine."

Her passion and dedication made everything possible for her. Yeng is a living proof that one should never give up on their passion because everything will be worth it in the end.
