Jonathan Manalo carves another career milestone with Awit Awards noms

By Regina Tabora

Jonathan Manalo, Star Music’s audio content head, took to Facebook on Monday, August 1, to say how thankful he feels to have received a whopping 16 nominations at the Awit Awards 2016.

The multi-awarded composer wrote, “Got 16 nominations in this year's ‪#‎AwitAwards‬ for various songs & recordings that I've either written, co-written, composed, arranged & produced :) ...Thank you Lord for these blessings!”

Jonathan first started writing gospel songs when he was younger, but came into the spotlight after winning the grand prize for his self-composed song, "Tara Tena," at the "Himig Handog sa Makabagong Kabataan" in 2001. He has since produced and written over 300 songs for Star Music, and is now part of the "Himig Handog" panel.

It was last year that he got the most nominations for a composer/producer with 12 nominations, a record that he beat this year.

The Awit Awards is an institution headed by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry, Inc. (PARI) that gives merit to individuals who continue to innovate and contribute to the Philippine music industry.

Some of the songs that Jonathan wrote and produced that are nominated are "Paano Ba Ang Magmahal" from the movie "The Breakup Playlist" (which he wrote with Yeng Constantino) and Vice Ganda’s "Wag Kang Pabebe."
