In her sit-down interview with Boy Abunda in the August 23 episode of "Tonight with Boy Abunda," Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz confessed that she once suffered with an almost career-ending injury in 2014.
"Na-injury ako sa tuhod," she said. "Alam niyo naman po 'pag may injury ang isang atleta, 'yun na 'yung katapusan namin."
Hidilyn said that due to the injury, she struggled with weightlifting. In that moment, she felt lost and at odds with her life's meaning.
"Na-depress, parang ganoon," she said.
In spite of her struggles, she managed to build a strong relationship with God.
"Every morning po nagpe-pray ako, kung walang ginagawa nagpe-pray ako," she said.
Hidilyn's Filipino values remain an integral part of her identity.
"May mga ups and downs, tapos si God ang naging best friend ko nung mga time na kailangang kailangan ko Siya," she noted.
Hidilyn's advice to young weightlifters?
"Dream high."
Hidilyn stated that aside from putting focus back into her education, she is also planning to join the Tokyo Games in 2020 where she will be going for gold.
