Internationally acclaimed Filipino independent filmmaker Lav Diaz and former ABS-CBN CEO and president Charo Santos-Concio who recently met for the theatrical release of Diaz’s recent multi-awarded film “Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis” starring John Lloyd Cruz was able to forge a deal to work together on the former media executive’s comeback movie.
Produced by Sine Olivia and Cinema One Originals, this movie “Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) ” is one of the participating films in the 2016 Venice Film Festival Main Competition category this coming August 31 to September 10 to be held at the Lido in Venice.
Shot almost entirely in Calapan Mindoro, Concio’s hometown, the film revolves around Horacia Somorostro, whose life has become a veritable reclusion perpetua, an imprisonment. Life’s spins and randomness has been very difficult, vicious and inexplicable for her.
“The inspiration of the story is Tolstoy’s God Sees The Truth but Waits…what really struck me when I read it was that neither of us really understands life. We don’t really know. This is one of the most essential
truths of existence. And more often, we abide and succumb to life’s randomness, ” Diaz shares. He is the film’s director, editor and cinematographer.
Concio is joined by a powerhouse cast of John Lloyd Cruz, Michael de Mesa, Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, Marj Lorico, Mayen Estanero, Romelyn Sale, Lao Rodriguez, Jean Judith Javier , Mae Paner and Kakai Bautista.
According to Ronald Arguelles, the film’s executive producer, “Ang Babaeng Humayo” is the biggest film to date of Cinema One Originals productions and everyone here in Cinema One Originals is excited with the dramatic comeback of Ms. Charo Santos-Concio to film acting.
