Piolo Pascual, saludo kanino?

After he flew to Germany to attend the 66th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) last February 21, Piolo Pascual expressed his gratitude upon bagging the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize.

"More than anything, it's giving prestige to the country. It's good because we have a presence already in a big festival," the ultimate heartthrob shared in an interview with PUSH.com recently.

Piolo proudly said, "It’s really a privilege. Kaya nga nung ginawa ko ang 'Hele,' I really insisted."

Piolo went with his co-star John Lloyd Cruz, fellow cast members such as Angel Aquino and Cherie Gil, executive producer Paul Soriano, and their award-winning director Lav Diaz.

The actor-producer happily recalled his Berlinale experience, saying, “There was no intermission, no production number. We started at 7:00 and we ended at 8:00 on the dot. It was no frills ang bilis lang everyone was given ample time for their speech kapag nanalo. It was organized."

Piolo also commended Direk Lav and his work.

"It was high time for Lav to be recognized locally because kilala siya sa Locarno [International Film Festival] and other festivals abroad. Our generation should embrace somebody like Lav because he is edgy and he doesn’t care about what people say about his work, but when you watch it, you will have respect for him as a director," he related.

The 485-minute indie is the third Filipino film to participate in the said category after Ishmael Bernal’s “Himala” in 1982 and Brillante Mendoza’s “Captive” in 2012.

"Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis," produced by Direk Paul under his film outfit TEN17P, marks Piolo and John Lloyd's first film together.

Meanwhile, John Lloyd and Piolo will once again show their award-winning acting in separate projects with Star Cinema this year.

Piolo will play a DJ in a movie with Coleen Garcia and Dawn Zulueta, to directed by Gino M. Santos, while John Lloyd has another offering coming soon, "Just the 3 Of Us," his first team-up with Jennylyn Mercado under the direction of Cathy Garcia-Molina.
