Coleen Garcia admits she was afraid to take on comedy
We've seen Coleen Garcia do sexy, romance, and drama both in TV and in film. But, in the upcoming movie "Extra Service," she's dabbling on something different: comedy.

It's understandable then, that she was initially anxious to take on the Chris Martinez project.

During the press conference for the film held earlier today, December 18, the actress related, "Nung nalaman ko na magko-comedy ako sa Star (Cinema), sobra akong kinabahan talaga. Kasi hindi ako nagko-comedy, wala akong experience diyan, tapos mahiyain pa 'ko... pero nung nalaman ko na si Direk Chris 'yung director, medyo nakampante talaga 'ko kasi I've seen some of his work. Magaling talaga siyang direktor."

With Direk Chris' guidance, Coleen nailed her first scene, and the next... and the rest.

"Nakakatawa siya, kailangan lang talagang i-push," Direk Chris said about one of his lead actresses in the film.

With the whole experience of doing the film, Coleen realized that when it comes to comedy, it's all about being as natural and as open as possible.

"I realized sa comedy hindi ka kailangan mag-prepare," Coleen surmised. "You just need to be open and be game to do everything. And lahat naman kami nagawa 'yon. Lahat kami naging game din sa lahat ng hiningi ni Direk and si Direk was able to adapt to us also. Ang daming wala sa script na biglang nadagdag or na-improvise."

She admitted, however, that she felt challenged in delivering her comic lines with perfect timing.

"Kasi actually, malaking bagay din sa comedy 'yung scoring," she explained. "So kung aarte ka tapos hindi mo naman naririnig 'yung scoring, siyempre hindi mo maiiisip pa 'yun. So you really have to listen to the director. Dito naging captain talaga ng ship yung director namin kasi vision niya 'yun."

The former "It's Showtime" host had so much fun doing "Extra Service," which is also packed with lots of action scenes, that she would love to do other comedy projects in the future.

"Magandang bali siya especially kung sanay ka mag-drama or sanay ka sa ibang projects, maganda rin na if you're gonna balance different projects, mag-comedy din. Okay din siya," she enthused.

"Extra Service" is like a secret code given to Maldita (Coleen), Henya (Jessy Mendiola), and Kapitana (Arci Munoz), ex-convicts-turned-massage therapists, to execute their mission.

Also included in the cast are Vin Abrenica, Enzo Pineda, Ejay Falcon, and Carmi Martin.

"Extra Service," brought to you by Skylight Films and Star Cinema, is coming to cinemas on January 11, 2017.
