MANILA - Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is excited to come back home and celebrate her historic win with her fellow Filipinos.
In her first Filipino interview since being crowned Miss Universe, Wurtzbach said she is very grateful to the people who supported her all the way.
"I hope I made all of you happy. That's what's important to me," she told her countrymen on ABS-CBN's "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Tuesday, her first official working day as Miss Universe.
The Filipina said her schedule as Miss Universe is very hectic but she promised to continue to push for causes like HIV awareness, disaster risk reduction and anti-cyberbullying.
Wurtzbach added that it wasn't just a win by one person, but by a team of people who have been there for her since the beginning.
"They've really been patient with me," she said.
ON MISS COLOMBIA
Meanwhile, Wurtzbach clarified that she and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez-Arévalo are on good terms after host Steve Harvey named the wrong winner.
During the live telecast, Harvey proclaimed Miss Colombia as the new Miss Universe, only to take it back and say that Wurtzbach is the true winner. The TV host has apologized for the incident.
Wurtzbach said there is no ill will between her and Gutierrez, saying she even gave her a phone call on her birthday last December.
"There's no conflict or divide between us, even the other candidates know that I was really concerned with Miss Colombia because I know it hurt her," the Filipina said.
Wurtzbach said she hopes everyone understands that it was an honest mistake by the announcer and it wasn't anybody's intention to hurt Miss Colombia.
"He's human. He made a mistake. It's live television. I hope they understand that it wasn't our intention to hurt anybody and I know that Ariadna is a beautiful and talented young lady who will have a lot of opportunities," she said.
When asked what happened during the awkward moment on stage, Wurtzbach said it was Miss USA Olivia Jordan who told her about the wrong announcement.
"Miss USA told me, 'I think you've just won," she recalled. "My hopes were already up, but I wasn't really sure until Steve Harvey made the announcement."
The Filipina said her "real crowning moment" happened backstage after everybody assured her that she won the pageant.
"I kept on asking them, did I really win? Are they going to come back for it? Are they going to take away my crown?" she said. "When they reassured me I won, that's when I had my crowning moment."
After her victory, Wurtzbach has also earned critics, especially in Colombia.
But the reigning Miss Universe said she understands where they're coming from.
"I understand where their reactions are coming from. If it happened to us, we might have the same reaction," she explained.
Wurtzbach also said that she has learned about the video where a Colombian is seen burning an effigy of her. "Hindi ako nagpapaapekto siguro because I've had my fair share of bashers even way, way back. I choose my battles."
The Filipina explained that after she saw the video, she did some research and found out that it was a tradition in Colombia to burn their bad memories from the past year during New Year's Eve.
