MANILA - Actor Robin Padilla on Wednesday issued a statement on his verified Facebook account after former adult film actress Maria Ozawa called him "unprofessional" as he withdrew from their upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Nilalang."
According to his manager, the 45-year-old Padilla decided to pull out of the project in order to take care of his wife Mariel Rodriguez, who is pregnant with triplets.
It did not sit well with Ozawa, who expressed her dismay on her Instagram account, saying "no other celebrity would cancel [his] job 10 days before the shooting starts."
She added that she is still hoping that the producers will find a replacement actor, despite the film already being shelved.
Here's his statement, unedited:
"All has the right to speak and fight for anything that they believe in."
"You have expressed your thoughts already and displayed your undying support to my wife loudly which i am thankful on some but shocked/protested on many."
"My dear fellow Mariel loyalist,my little sisters in the Katipunan,It wil be wiser for you to stop first because truly our camp is at fault, let the camp of Ms Maria Ozawa voice out their Pain, its natural, its organic."
Padilla also asked for prayers for Rodriguez and posted a photo of a knife he had prepared to use for the film.
"This is the knife that I prepared for the character of Tony in 'Nilalang' made by the native Sami tribe of Lapland Sweden," he said.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, which organizes the annual MMFF, has yet to announce a replacement film for "Nilalang."
There are two reserve films: the John Lloyd Cruz-starrer "Conman" and Lakambini," which features Lovi Poe.
