For Yan Yuzon, Pacquiao’s defeat is more worthy to celebrate than Mayweather’s victory

Many may still be licking the wounds of disappointment over Manny Pacquiao’s loss to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. today, May 3 (Philippine time) but apparently not Yan Yuzon.

Not because the musician and acting coach didn’t cheer for our Champ, but because of his realizations about how boxing has become as a sport.

On Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/yanyuzon/posts/10153160569171187?pnref=story), the Pupil member aired his thoughts about what was dubbed as ‘The Fight of the Century,” which has already garnered thousands of likes and some 800 shares as of this writing.

His full post goes:

“History will not mention that Floyd Mayweather won ‘The Fight of the Century’ via cheap tactics in front of a booing crowd--it will only say that he retired undefeated in the sport of boxing. It will say he was boxing's greatest champion, will make no mention of how he disgraced the sport he led with his skittering, sidestepping, hugging, sly elbows... No mention neither of the wifebeating, of money worship, of the fact that he conducted himself with little or no class whatsoever.

“BUT...

“History will also mention that people used to watch a sport called boxing, until it defiled itself with absurd rules that allowed people to win with technicality, thereby insulting those who gave the sport its true dignity by wearing their hearts on their sleeves, risking life and limb for glory in both victory or defeat.

“I do not mourn Pacquiao's defeat, I celebrate it. It is more glorious than Mayweather's victory.

“I mourn the death of sportsmanship, integrity, and the true value of giving your all no matter how high the odds are stacked against you.”
