TipStar: Finding love in unexpected places

These Star Cinema love stories started in places we either take for granted or don’t expect to find romance in.

TipStar: Finding love in unexpected places

“Where can I find love?” This is a question that the loveless have perhaps been asking themselves or their friends, hoping to be enlightened, or better yet, to get ideas on their “The One’s” whereabouts.

Sometimes, though, it’s in the most unexpected and unlikely places do we find that love we truly deserve, like those seen in several Star Cinema love stories.

The trick, perhaps, is in being open to possibilities and not shutting our windows and closing our doors to love, wherever we are.

MRT

Hundreds and thousands of commuters flock to the MRT (and LRT) every day, hoping to get to their destinations faster than if they take a bus and endure the stressful EDSA traffic. Betsy (Bea Alonzo) and Michael (John Lloyd Cruz) in “Now That I Have You” often take the same trip every morning, initially unaware that it was the beginning of their love story.

Applications in government offices

Applying for government-issued IDs and documents can be taxing. You just want to get it over and done with for the most part, so the least you’d expect is to find the officer of the day attending to you too cute that you’d want to take her out to lunch (oops, no noon break for them!) – or dinner. In “You Are The One,” Sally (Toni Gonzaga) met Derby (Sam Milby) while applying for a visa. He, however, rejected her application! Well, that worked for the best, at least for them.

Ferry boat

The ferry boat is one of the underutilized modes of transportations in Metro Manila, apparently, yet it’s full of promise… for love. In “Miss You Like Crazy,” Mia (Bea Alonzo) and Allan (John Lloyd Cruz) first meet while they’re both on board a ferry boat and he mistakes her for attempting to take her own life after she writes a cryptic message on a rock.

Out-of-town trip

Traveling alone opens us up to an abundant amount of possibilities, some of which can’t fully materialize when we’re with company (not that we don’t want to be with them, right?). In “Don’t Give Up On Us,” Abby (Judy Ann Santos) only went to Baguio to look for her friend who went missing in action. Little did she expect to forge an unlikely romance with Vince (Piolo Pascual), whose simpler way of living contrasts with her flair for the cosmopolitan.

Book store

What if apart from that novel you’ve been craving to buy, you also come across someone interesting? In “The Mistress,” JD (John Lloyd Cruz) couldn’t take his eyes off of Sari (Bea Alonzo), who was busy checking out titles. He follows her outside the mall and tells her, “Have coffee with me.” But she wouldn’t be seduced that easily. “Hindi dahil gusto mo, makukuha mo.” So begins their complicated love affair.
