Antoinette Jadaone doesn’t want to believe that “That Thing Called Tadhana” has led to the influx of tourists in Sagada which then led to the ire of a certain blogger.
The award-winning director was asked on her two cents on the matter at the recently concluded 17th Gawad Pasado awards, where “Tadhana” reaped recognitions (See related article: “#SNAPSHOTS: JM, Richard, Gretchen, and Iza receive awards from Gawad Pasado”
Direk Tonet said she respects the blogger’s opinion – that the popularity of the movie inadvertently led to an overexposure of Sagada, where a pivotal scene involving the film’s stars Angelica Panganiban and JM de Guzman was shot.
She nevertheless wouldn’t like to believe that “Tadhana” is responsible for what the blogger claimed it did, noting that tourists would want to explore new destinations especially during the holidays.
“Hindi kami ganun ka-conceited o kayabang na filmmaker para sabihin na dahil sa ‘Tadhana’ ‘yung pagdagsa ng tourists,” she said. “And… it’s a place that we should share with other people, na hindi mo siya dapat sinasarili.
The controversial blog post (“That thing called ‘wasak ang kiltepan’: an open letter to director antoinette jadaone”) has already been deleted as of this writing.
