After the live performances of the eight semi-finalists on Saturday (Feb. 21) and Sunday (Feb. 22), “The Voice of the Philippines Season 2” coaches, with the help of the text votes from the finalists’ supporters, have finally named the top four hopefuls who will compete in the singing competition’s grand finale next weekend.
Farmer-singer Rence Rapanot will represent Kamp Kawayan after his whooping 57.41 percent of text votes against teammate Rita Martinez. Coach Bamboo Mañalac gave his higher percentage to Rence as well. Bamboo admitted that it was difficult choosing between the two artists who both consistently performed their best in the competition.
Meanwhile, Professional “Haranista" Jason Dy will represent Team Sarah after getting coach Sarah Geronimo’s vote over teammate Monique Lualhati. Despite Lea Salonga’s comment saying Monique’s performance was better than Jason’s during their “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” duet, Sarah chose Jason who according to her did a better job overall. The fan votes overwhelmingly agreed with Sarah’s decision resulting to 65.19 percent of text votes for Jason.
On the other hand, Leah Patricio of Team Lea edged out Timmy Pavino who topped the viewers’ votes. Coach Lea chose her resident “biritera,” giving her 55 percent of her vote. She said that Leah shined the most during her solo performance.
Lastly, Internet sensation Alisah Bonaobra sent her teammate Daryl Ong home with a half point lead due to Coach apl.de.ap’s decision of giving his higher percentage to the former. Daryl topped the viewers’ vote but was not secured of a spot for the grand finals.
