For the first time, Chesca Diaz-Morales, daughter of the late Paquito Diaz and sister of actor Jojo Diaz, shared with ABS-CBN employees how her life changed ever since she surrendered herself to Christ.
Married to Carlos Morales, Chesca is now a mother of three. Her eldest son with actor Gary Estrada is teen heartthrob Kiko Estrada, while her children with husband Carlos are Stefan, 18, and Gabriella, 14.
Gracing the ABS-CBN Fellowship upon the invitation of one of the group’s leaders, sports host and reporter Dyan Castillejo, Morales admitted to having insecurities when she first entered show business at 18, and after having been in the public eye from the time she was little.
Standing 5’7" without heels and weighing 130 lbs, which is ideal for her height, she has a bigger frame than most Filipino women. Morales’ physique hampered her otherwise remarkable acting abilities, which her parents recognized when she was very young. Directors had no problems about her talent but found her too big for the leading men she was paired with. She was told to lose weight with every project she was offered. Having experienced this for years, she developed insecurities as a result of being compared to other women.
But her life was not without blessings. When most would complain about having issues with their in-laws, Morales has her mother-in-law as a best friend. They get along so well and she taught her so many things about life.
It was also her mother-in-law who introduced her to church where she grew closer to God and where her faith was made stronger. Morales started to ask questions about her life purpose and why things happened the way they did in her life.
“God also wanted me to realize that before loving others, I should love myself first,” said Morales.
She went on to share the Bible verse in 1 Cor. 13:2 “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”
From discovering self-love, she grew to be more confident about herself and realized she now makes wiser decisions in her life. These positive life lessons trickled down to her own children.
She stepped out of the limelight for more than a decade to join the corporate world, and now she's back in show business with a renewed zeal for her craft. Now more than ever, her light will shine brightest with love for her creator and savior, and her self, too.
Having a clearer vision and divine life purpose, Morales ended her talk by saying, “We are a work in progress. With God, our best days are always ahead of us.”
