MANILA - "Kapamilya Deal or No Deal," ABS-CBN's version of the international game show that originated from Netherlands, returned for a fifth season on Monday with celebrities replacing the past briefcase holders dubbed the "26K Girls."
The first batch of "Lucky Stars," named after host Luis Manzano's nickname, is composed of hunk actors Dominic Roque, Markki Stroem and Ahron Villaflor; film actors Baron Geisler and Rez Cortez; and "showbiz royalties" Epy Quizon, Arlene Muhlach, Garie Concepcion and Ramon Christopher Gutierrez.
Ex-"Pinoy Big Brother" housemates Nina Jose, Karen Reyes and Matt Evans are also part of the 20-member group; as well as comedians Long Mejia, Bonito, Eric Nicolas and Ryan Bang; sexy actress Yam Concepcion; and YouTube sensation Donnalyn Bartolome.
Completing the first batch are beauty queens Bianca Manalo and Melanie Marquez.
The celebrities, like their predecessors, will each have an unknown amount of prize money in his or her briefcase. In another franchise-first twist, the studio player will also come from the 20 stars.
Before the game starts, a roulette will determine who among the Lucky Stars will be the player for the day. The chosen player may opt to keep his or briefcase, or trade it with one held by another Lucky Star. The bargaining begins and the player opens the briefcases one by one, in the hope of getting a big offer from the "Banker."
The "lucky player" for the premiere episode was Villaflor, who won P180,000 after striking a deal with the Banker. His briefcase contained P50,000.
