The Trial” is a breath of fresh air for John Lloyd Cruz who had a string of blockbuster rom-com films to his name.

“Inilalagay ko siya sa timing parang after a series of rom-coms finally I’m doing something different,” exclaims John Lloyd during his guesting on “The Buzz” aired yesterday, October 12.

“Para sa’kin kasi, hindi ba dapat lahat ng klase ng trabahong tinatanggap mo e parang talagang gusto mo siya? Walang trabaho na parang pera-pera lang,” he explains.

Just like his previous roles, John Lloyd wholeheartedly embraced his latest character, Ronald Jimenez; a guy in his late 20’s who is struggling to pass elementary because of a rare case of mild intellectual disability.

“Na-challenge talaga ako e after doing this movie. Last day namin nila Gretchen (Barretto), nila Kuya Goma (Richard Gomez). Napatingin talaga ako sa kawalan,” he shares. “Sabi ko ‘grabe ‘yung naging learning ko dito. You have a guy like Ronald na may kakulangan sa pag-iisip and you have ‘yung mga characters nila Gretchen Barretto, Richard Gomez na matatalinong tao, normal but then hindi kayang magbigay ng klase ng pagmamahal na meron si Ronald.”

John Lloyd is referring to the kind of love Ronald was able to give to his teacher named Bessy, the character played by Jessy Mendiola, who revealed that it was John Lloyd who inspired her to join the industry.
“Hindi ako makapaniwala, paano ‘yun? Paano ako naging motivation ng isang tao para magtulak sa isang tao para pumasok sa industriyang ito? Sobra siyang nakaka-amaze,” replies John Lloyd when asked to react on Jessy’s statement.

At the end of the interview, John Lloyd expressed gratitude to his co-stars, director Chito Roño, and to the top executives of ABS-CBN—Star Cinema head Malou Santos, President Charo Santos-Concio, and Chairman Gabby Lopez.

It’s such a beautiful experience and I can’t wait to do more, give more sa ganitong linya,” ends John Lloyd.
