Gerald plays his dream role on 'MMK'

"Maalala Mo Kaya" (MMK) will feature the story of a hardworking teacher who was diagnosed with a very rare condition this Saturday, December 12.

Kapamilya star Gerald Anderson will portray the role of Bert Mendoza who suffers from X-linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP), also known as Lubag Syndrome. "Lubag" is a Visayan term which means twisted.

"Sobrang inspired ako na gawin 'tong episode na 'to kasi there's a purpose eh and meron tayong matutulungan na pamilya, hindi lang siya," Gerald shared during the episode press conference today, December 10.

According to studies, XDP commonly affects Filipino male adults starting at the age of 30. Symptoms include slurring, laborious walking, difficulty in handwriting, and involuntary muscle movements or contractions.

Gerald shared how challenging the role was for him since it will also be his first gay role.

"Actually dream ko rin talaga to portray a gay role kaya lang ito, may ibang challenge pa dahil may XDP siya," he said.

Gerald personally met Bert before he started shooting for the said episode.

Directed by Nuel Naval, joining this "MMK" episode are Snooky Serna, Raikko Mateo, Kyle Benzon, EJ Jallorina, Veyda Inoval, Karla Cruz, Dale Badilio, Angelo Ilagan, Ronalissa Cheng, Trina Legaspi, Ellaine Quemel, and Lui Manansala.
